Introduction:
A wide variety of material handling equipment are available in the market. Some are meant for special purpose use and some for general purpose use. So the selection of equipment depends on the requirements and conditions of the industry.
Any material handling equipment should satisfy the following conditions. It should

2. Be accidents proof.
3. Reduce production time.
4. Lead to better working condition.
5. Reduce fatigue of operations.
6. Reduce cost of material handling.
Equipment:
Various types of material handling equipment are available to suit various industries applications.
They can be classified as follows.
1. Fixed path Equipment.
2. Variable path Equipment.
1.Fixed path Equipment.
These equipment move in a fixed path. Conveyors, monorails, chutes etc belong to this category.
Overhead cranes even though move in a fixed path, they can move material in any manner with in a restricted area.
2. Variable path Equipment.
These equipment have no restrictions in the direction of movement. Trucks, fork lifts, mobile cranes, industrial tractors etc.belong to the category.
Normally these equipment are easily maneuverable. A number of attachment can be added to these equipment ,to increase their versatility.
