Planning for Accident Prevention

Material To prevent accidents, the following should be checked.

1. Layout of work place
2. Access to workplace
3. machinery
4. flow of material through shop 
5. Storage of material


Planning for Accident Prevention


                    
1. Layout of work place

 1. There should be sufficient space around each machine for movement of operator and maintenance.
 2. The layout should be such that, material handling is very less.
 3. There should be a place for every thing and every thing should be kept in its place.
 4. The layout should be such that the movement of the workers are kept minimum.

2. Access to workplace

 1. Aisles should be provided in the work place. They should be clearly marked.
 2 Material should not be on the passage.
 3. There should not be any projection of machine part of working material in  the passage.
 4. Floors should be kept clean.
 5. Inclination in flooring should be gradual. The shop floors should not have ups and downs .

3. Machinery

 1. All moving parts should be enclosed.
 2. Guards should be strong. Chains and steel wires used wires used in cranes or hooks should be strong.
 3.Working parts should not have sharp corners.
 4. machine should be designed such that they will not run without safety devices.
 5. Operating procedures and precautions should be very clear .

4. flow of material through shop 

 1. Containers and racks should be used to handle materials.
 2. Manual handling should be avoided.
 3. Material movement should be kept minimum.
 4. Re-handling should be avoided.
 5. Straight line or curved paths should be used instead of zip zag paths.

5. Storage of material

 1. Material should be stored in such a way that they do not collapse due to their own weight or due to vibration or otherwise.
 2. Proper storing devices should be used depending upon the nature of material 

Example :

 1. Bins racks.
 2. Drums.
 3. pallets are examples of storage devices.

 3. Material should not project or protrude out of
